How to Shoot in Indoor Basketball Games

If you are a professional photographer assigned to take photos of an indoor basketball game, getting the right shot can be tricky. The right moment to snap the picture can come and go in the blink of an eye, but getting the right mix of action and emotion can land your photo on the front page of the sports section. The key to great photos is one that complements the story that accompanies it.

Instructions

    1

Find a location close to the baseline, but not on the court. Action shots are taken from close to the game that show the players well.

    2

Aim for the players. Take a picture that shows at least half of a player's body.

    3

Ensure your target is unobstructed by other players and objects. Take the photo.

    4

Review the picture. Keep taking pictures until you have several different shots.

    5

Move around the baseline of the court for different angles and take more photos. Take pictures from both behind the backboard as well as the sidelines.

How to Set Up Equipment for a Photo Booth

The photo booth has evolved from a mid-20th century novelty to a hip, do-it-yourself phenomenon. Events as school dances and house parties, to store openings and dance clubs have photo booths. Photo booths require a modest budget and some relatively uncomplicated technology, but you have to set them up properly to produce good-looking images. With the right equipment, technique and a little creativity, you can set up equipment for a simple and fun photo booth.

Instructions

    1

    Choose your backdrop.

You can use anything from a professional photography backdrop to an empty wall. Solid colors with medium brightness work better than very bright or dark backgrounds or backgrounds with patterns. Make sure the backdrop is tall enough for the tallest person at the event.

    2

Set up a tripod in front of the backdrop.

    3

Attach a digital camera to the tripod and position the tripod so you can see the desired area of the backdrop through the camera's viewfinder.

    4

Set up a single photographic light with a reflector and stand. Position the light so that the reflected light hits the backdrop at a 45-degree angle from one side of the camera.

    5

Attach the camera to the light with a sync cord.

    6

Place a chair or two in front of the backdrop, depending on how much space you have.

    7

Place a box of props by the backdrop for guests to use.

Props like wigs, toys, hats and sunglasses can help your guests cut loose and use their imagination.

    8

Place a shutter remote in the backdrop area for guests to use.

You can take the photos yourself or have a dedicated photographer, but having the guests take their own pictures lets them have fun and allows you to enjoy the event.

    9

Test the set up with a friend or two before the event.

Reposition any of the booth elements if needed.

    10

Charge your extra camera batteries, have a backup light ready and ensure you have enough memory cards to let event guests take photos all night.

Photo Shoot Ideas With Goddesses

Use a goddess themed photo shoot to empower the female photo subjects. The goddess image is one of beauty, skill, and often desire. Choose a goddess theme that suits the subject, whether Greek and Roman goddesses, goddesses from Norse mythology or even the domestic goddess image. Props and costumes will enhance the image in the final photos. Also choose locations and backdrops that complete the image.

Goddess Costumes

Research the costume traditionally shown on the desired goddesses or mythology to help select costumes for the photo shoot.
Research the costume traditionally shown on the desired goddesses or mythology to help select costumes for the photo shoot.

Depending on the goddess theme selected, the costume may differ greatly. Greek and Roman goddesses such as Aphrodite/Venus, might be best portrayed in a draped white chiton, curled hair gathered at the head and gold decorations adorning the hair, body and costume. An Egyptian goddess may be portrayed with the classic bold Egyptian eyeliner, bronzing over the body for a shiny, tan glow, and gold jewelry. Select the theme that best suits the needs of the photo shoot and research costumes traditionally worn by the ancient culture.

Props

The owl was associated with Athena.
The owl was associated with Athena.

Props can help liven up a photo. Greek and Roman goddesses may be portrayed holding grapes, goblets of wine or perhaps representations of the classic foods of the Greek gods: ambrosia and nectar. Additional props may represent the individual goddesses' attributes, such as Diana or Artemis's bow and arrow, or a mirror. Egyptian goddesses may be portrayed with papyrus or rubbing protective oil on an arm, as additional examples. Animals can also be incorporated. Some goddesses were believed to be symbolized by certain animals, such as the owl for Athena.

Select Proper Locations

Sheer fabrics can be purchased by the yard in large quantities, and quickly disguise and transform a location.
Sheer fabrics can be purchased by the yard in large quantities, and quickly disguise and transform a location.

For some goddesses, outdoors or natural locations may be ideal for the photo shoot, but for others, a pampered indoor setting would be best. Consider the type of personality associated with the desired goddesses and set the location accordingly. To help decorate an indoor room to match a target culture, consider draping sheer fabrics around furniture or hanging sheer fabrics from the wall or ceiling. Throw pillows make excellent decorations and props as well. Large palm leaves used for fanning Egyptian princesses, or other decorative items may also enhance the setting.

The Domestic Goddess

Domestic goddesses could be represented in a goddess-themed photo shoot.
Domestic goddesses could be represented in a goddess-themed photo shoot.

When planning a goddess photo shoot, it may be nice to include the "domestic goddess." Consider traditional images associated with a "domestic goddess" such as 1950s designer aprons, natural makeup and images of the domestic goddess stirring a batter or tasting her soup. Modernized images may also be created, representing unique perspectives of a domestic goddess, including the "working mother" who also takes care of the housework and children, if the concept suits the needs of the photo shoot. Some domestic goddess imagery may be viewed as sexist or old fashioned, so take care when selecting the image to be portrayed.
