Removing glare from a digital photograph is possible. Thanks to several photo editing programs, including Adobe Photoshop, Xara, and Corel PaintShop, varying tools allow you to manipulate the problematic area and remove glare. Each of these programs offer multiple methods to achieve a digital alteration.
Instructions
Adobe Photoshop

Open the image in Photoshop by clicking "File", then "Open".
2Create a new layer by clicking the "Create a new layer" tab or by selecting "New" under the "Layer" drop down menu. You may want to zoom into the area with glare for greater detail.
3Choose the "Lasso" tool and carefully trace around the glare. If you make any mistakes while tracing, hold down the "Alt" key ("Option" key for Mac) to unselect the extra areas, and/or the "Shift" key to add more to the selection.
4Click the "Image" menu, choose "Adjustments" and then select "Levels." Experiment with the slider bar until the reflection is minimized to your liking, then click "OK."
5Select the "Clone Stamp" tool from the toolbox. Choose your desired size, mode and opacity. Hold down the Alt key and the cursor will change to cross-hairs; click the mouse on an area of the photo not affected by the glare. This will be your "Clone Source" to use in the cover-up process.
6When the Alt key is not being held down, your "Clone Source" becomes your "Clone Destination" -- a circle instead of cross-hairs. To fix the glare, click inside the selected area with your "Clone Destination" tool until the problematic area is corrected -- the area outside the selection will not be affected. Continue clicking as many times as needed for proper cover-up.
Xara Designer Pro 6

Open the image using Xara photograph editing software by clicking "File", then "Open."
8Create a new layer and zoom into the problem area to see it more closely.
9Select the "Clone" tool and make desired adjustments for size and opacity. Repeat the steps for creating a "Clone Source" and "Clone Destination" (as detailed in Steps 5 and 6, above) until you diminish the glare.
10Use the "Blend", "Shadow" and "Transparency" tools to perfect the image.
11Save the image to a unique file destination -- it is not recommended to write over the original file.
Corel PaintShop Photo

Open the image using Corel PaintShip by clicking "File", then "Open."
13A similar technique to the ones for Photoshop and Xara will remove glare using Corel; the main difference will be the tool names. Corel PaintShop offers "Smart Photo Fix" to suggest adjustments and automatically make corrections. Corel's "Tone-mapping," "Strength," and "Eyedropper" tools are comparable to other photo editing programs. These will achieve the similar desired effects of Xara and Adobe Photoshop.
14Save the finished product -- common file types include .JPG and .TIFF.
