Your baby's first photographs are a special treasure for parents, so the pose must be perfect. Many babies sleep a majority of the time, so don't look exclusively for their eyes to be open, just look for a pose that will be special to you. It may also require a few, so ensure everyone is rested and prepared to spend a little extra time to get the perfect shot.

Baby in Hand

Put yourself in the photo by posing the baby in your hands. Lay him in your cupped hands as he sleeps. This is a popular pose for new babies. Newborns are small and can be placed in your hands without the worry of them falling or wiggling too much. Disrobe the baby so he is laying skin on skin in your hands.

Props

Use props to position your baby for photographs. Position the baby on a special blanket or with an item that holds significant meaning. Wrap the baby in the blanket with her hands cupped next to her face. Place a beloved teddy bear on the floor with the baby appearing to hold it. Surround the baby in soft white feathers with a close-up shot of her face.

Baby with Parents

Take a picture of mom and dad holding and looking at the new baby. This pose demonstrates the love that parents have for their new bundle of joy. You may choose to take a picture with each parent individually, then one together. Let mom hold the baby and have dad looking over her shoulder with one hand around mom's waist and one hand on the baby.

Hand in Hand

Place the mother or father's hand palm up then place the baby's hand in their hand. In one picture, have mom clasp the baby's hand. This illustrates how tiny baby is, and how strong and comforting his parents are. You may also use this pose with the baby's feet. Place both feet on the parent's hands.

Photos are a great way to remember different special events throughout your life. One high school memory that many will want to remember in the future is prom. Here are some tips on how to pose people for memorable prom pictures.

Instructions

Facing Each Other

    1

The boy and girl should stand with their feet alternating about shoulder-width apart.

    2

Place the girl's front hand on the boy's chest right below his shoulder and her back hand either around his waist or around his neck, whichever is more comfortable.

    3

Place the boy's hands around the girl's waist.

    4

Tilt their heads toward each other slightly and ask them to smile a natural smile. Don't let them strain.

Back to Front

    5

Ask to have the the girl's feet between the boy's feet, which should be about shoulder-width apart.

    6

Back the girl up to the boy so that her back is touching his chest.

    7

Place the boy's hands on the girl's waist.

    8

Place the girl's hands on top of the boy's hands.

    9

Tilt the girl's head slightly back toward the boy and the boy's head ever so slightly toward her.

    10

Have them smile naturally. A strained smile will make them look really uncomfortable.

Diagonal

    11

Stand them in a slightly diagonal position so that they aren't turned completely to the side but also aren't facing straight forward.

    12

Let them do what feels natural with their hands. A girl may want to bring her hands together and rest them on her front hip. Boys may want to place their hands in their pockets.

    13

Have the girl stand with her feet together, and the boy stand with his feet shoulder width apart.

    14

Tilt their heads slightly toward their chest and smile naturally.

What Are Open-Edition Prints?

Unlike paintings, art prints are by nature duplicated. The artist produces the image on a printing surface and then creates multiple copies of this image. This set of copies is known as an edition, which helps collectors and museums price, collect and catalog an artist's work.

What is an Edition?

An edition is simply set of prints made from the same plate or printing surface. This edition can be as large or as small as an artist wants, but is normally finite. For example, an artist may create a plate and then produce 25 prints from the same plate. Ideally, all these prints will look the same, and will be numbered 1 through 25.

Edition Size

Editions come in many sizes based on the artist's notoriety, the price desired for each print and, in the cases of well-known prints, the popularity of the image. Normally, an artist who is attempting to sell his image will create an edition of between 25 and 100 prints, although there is no hard and fast rule about this. With smaller editions of desirable prints, each print will sell for more money than if more prints were available, according to laws of supply and demand.

Open Editions

In some cases, an artist will produce an edition with no predetermined number of prints, known as an open edition. Because any number of prints can be made from one printing plate, these prints are not as in high demand as those made from a normal or limited edition. They are also usually printed on lower-quality, lighter weight paper and may be of lesser quality, especially later in the edition when the printing plate begins to degrade. Prints in an open edition are less desirable as well as less expensive.

What Happens after an Edition is Printed?

To avoid reproduction of a print after the edition is completed, the plate is normally defaced or destroyed by various means, including acid for lithography, scratching out an image for metal printing plates, or wholesale demolition for more fragile printing methods. This ensures that the number of prints produced by the artist is all that is ever made, allowing a definite value to be placed on the prints.
