How to Change Picture Colors

One of the simplest effects that you can do to a photo is to change picture colors. Although simple, this photo-editing technique is widely used by professional and amateur photographers alike. You can create professional looking photo edits with computer software by simply making some adjustments to your photographs. These changes help to enhance colors, or give a different tone and feel to a picture.

Instructions

    1

Launch your Adobe Photoshop program. Click the File menu and select "Open." Navigate to the picture that you wish to edit. The picture will now load into your Photoshop window.

    2

Click on the Layers menu at the top and select "New Adjustment" layer, then "Hue/Saturation." This new layer will be shown in your Layers window at the bottom right of your screen. If this is not visible, click the Window menu at the top, and select "Layers" to make it appear.

    3

Select the layer "Hue/Saturation" from the layers window. In this layer box, you will see a half white, half black circle. Double-click this symbol and your image color adjustments will pop up.

    4

Adjust the values for hue, saturation and lightness and take note of the changes they make to your picture. You may also click in the numerical box to input a value directly. Once you are satisfied with your adjustments, you can record these numerical values for later reference, if you wish.

    5

Revert the photo back to its original state by clicking the "eye" symbol on the Hue/Saturation layer. This will turn the layer on and off by clicking it.

    6

Save the edited photo as a new file, so you won't overwrite the original. Select the "File" menu and then "Save As." Here you can select a file name, the location where you want it saved, and which format you would like for your image.
