A basic photo edit that can make a huge difference is adding a filter to the photo. You can do this in many different photo editing programs easily. From sepia, which adds an older, more rustic orange/red tint to the camera, to the classic black and white, the filter will change the overall color of the photo. Do this if you want to photo to have an "era" feel. For example, if your photo looks as though it should be back in the 1900s, consider adding a sepia or gray filter to it. If you'd like to make your photo more dramatic, you may want to change the color to black and white.

What many photographers see on camera is not what you'll see in the final product. Editing removes natural flaws such as blemishes and red-eye on the picture's subjects. These techniques are easily done with different photo editing software programs such as Adobe Photoshop or even Google Picasa, which is a free download. The idea behind editing the flaws and changing the contour and lighting in the photo is to enhance the photo in a way where the finished product still looks natural. You do not want to remove every single flaw to the point where the subject does not look real. This would defeat the purpose of capturing real-life moments in most cases.
