Cheap Artwork from Within the House
Lace napkins can be framed for a country or Victorian look. You can make a 3-D collage of flatware by choosing antique silverware and gluing it to a glass-less picture frame. Frame the kids' artwork, or draw around their hand or foot on colored paper, cut it out, and glue it to a contrasting piece of colored paper. Cut pictures from a magazine or a portion of gift wrapping paper. Frame fabric you like that's leftover from a project. Use your digital camera to capture and print portraits of family and friends. If you have the option to blow up a picture, you can cut two to three portions out of the blowup and frame each to hang side-by-side. Pull out post cards, Christmas cards, or other special greeting cards that you have saved, or pictures you've taken, perhaps while traveling, to see if any of them are frame-worthy. Think small and frame: a first prize ribbon, a lock of your baby's hair tied with a baby blue or pink ribbon, your baby's first booties (now outgrown). For the sports enthusiast, frame a series of different size fish hooks, on string suspended from the top of the frame at various heights; or frame favorite game tickets.
2Cheap Artwork from Outdoors
Moving outdoors, look to nature for inspiration. Pressed flowers or leaves, switched out to match the season, look great framed under glass. Try feathers, wheat, or ferns. Take pictures of nature to print and frame.
3Whatever you choose to frame, with so many options for cheap or free artwork, you can change the pictures to match the season or your mood.
