When Canon introduced the EOS autofocus line of cameras in 1987, it left a number of professional and amateurs wondering if their Canon FD (manual focus) lenses will work on the new bodies. By using an adaptor, photographers can mount FD lenses on EOS bodies. Focusing will still be manual, as will aperture selection.

Using FD Lenses on EOS bodies

Attach the Canon FD adapter to the Canon EOS body. Focusing the lens will require some practice as EOS viewfinders do not have a traditional focusing screen.
2Align and mount the FD lens to the adapter the same way you would normally mount the lens. Be sure you rotate the lens until it is locked in place and is secure on the camera.
3Set the camera aperture setting to 1.0. According to the website PhotoNotes, you will need to use the stop down metering method in setting the correct exposure for your images.
4Take a few test pictures using the FD lens.
