Chicago Area Camera Clubs

If you are a shutterbug in Chicago you are not alone. The Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association was founded in 1936 and is comprised of about 40 different camera clubs. This progressive group of clubs has over 1,000 members interested in all phases of photography.

Wright Camera Club

    The Wright Camera Club was founded by Wanda Christl in 1988. From September to May the group meets on the first Monday of the month, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Chicago. The club's activities include photo competitions, lectures, photo shoots and Chicago-land safaris. Membership is open to anyone 17 years or older with a membership fee of $35 for single individuals and $60 for couples, as of August 2010.

Washington Park Camera Club

    As of 2010, the Washington Park Camera Club has been in existence for 56 years. The club meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the months of September through June at the Washington Park Fieldhouse. Membership is open to all adults. You must contact the club's membership chair for an application and schedule of dues. Membership includes how-to workshops, print and digital photograph competitions and critiques, seminars from professionals in the field, field trips, projects for fun and profit as well as used equipment sales and trades.

    The Fort Dearborn-Chicago Photo Forum has been established for over a century. Founded in 1895 the forum welcomes members from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. Its headquarters are located in downtown Chicago and include two darkrooms and a studio. Basic dues are $20 per month, which include participation in competitions, workshops, field trips and other activities. For an additional $25 per month members have access to darkrooms and studios 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

North Shore Camera Club

    Founded in 1935, the goals of the North Shore Camera club are to share knowledge of photographic techniques and equipment, learn from each other and outside experts and have fun in a group of friends. All levels of experience are welcome to the club. Membership includes competitions, workshops, field trips and member critiques. As of August 2010, dues are $25 per year for a one person and $30 for couples. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. from October to May on Tuesdays. The group also has parties on Fridays.
