It is all too often that some unwanted person makes it into digital photographs. Whether it is a bystander walking in the background, someone jokingly joining a group picture they have no business being in, or someone you genuinely do not want to remember posing with; it is easy to erase a person from your digital images with the help of Adobe Photoshop. In a few quick steps, you can purge your digital image of any unwanted human subjects.

Instructions

    1

Open Photoshop by finding and clicking the Photoshop icon in your operating system's application menu. Once Photoshop opens, click "File" and then "Open" to find the image you wish to edit. Once you find the image, double click on it to open it in Photoshop.

    2

Examine the picture you opened, as well as the person you wish to remove from the picture. If the person is in the side of the frame, you may be able to simply crop the person out of the picture. In this case, select the crop tool in the toolbar. The crop tool resembles a square with a diagonal line through it. Click and drag the cursor over parts of the image that do not have the unwanted person. Adjust the edges to preference by click and dragging them. Click the check box in the lower right-hand corner of the image to complete the crop.

    3

Select the lasso tool if cropping your image will not suffice in removing an unwanted human subject. The lasso tool is located in the tool bar, and its icon resembles a u-shaped magnet on top of a rope. Outline the unwanted person with the lasso tool by clicking on the outside edge of the person and dragging the cursor around the subject. Finish the outline by clicking the the starting point of the outline. Press "Delete" to make the person disappear.

    4

Fill in the blank space that the deleted person left by selecting the "Clone Stamp" tool from the tool bar. The "Clone Stamp" tool's icon is a symbol of a rubber stamp. The clone tool allows users to copy parts of the image, and duplicate them over other portions of the image. Look around the blank space of the image to find elements of the image you can naturally fill the blank space with. For example, If the person was in front of the sky, it would be appropriate to fill in the blank space with parts of the sky to have the blank space blend in with the rest of the picture.

    5

Hold down "Alt" while clicking on the part of the image that is to be duplicated with the clone stamp tool. Release the "Alt" button and move the cursor over the blank space. Click the mouse button to have the "Clone Stamp" tool replace the blank space with your correction. Repeat this step as necessary until the blank space is properly filled. Click "Edit" and "Undo" at the top of the menu to undo any mistakes you might make in the process.

    6

Click "Save as" under "File" once you are finished removing someone from your image. Rename the file so that you have both the original picture and the edited one saved. Click "Save" to finish.
