How to Build a Simple Slide Projector

A slide projector works as a magnifying device by utilizing light and lenses. Light penetrates a slide, thus making its image larger. Each piece of the projector must be lined up for light to pass through cleanly. Projectors are used for educational presentations as well as in movie theaters. Slide projectors use magnification and can be reproduced with common materials.

Instructions

    1

Cut a hole in one end of the wooden box. Make the hole large enough to support the concentrated light source. The light source should shine through the length of the box.

    2

Drill two holes inside the box on the bottom surface. These holes should be drilled on the same line as the light source. Glue one of the magnifying glasses to each of these holes. Position the height of the magnifying glasses so the light source passes through them.

    3

Measure the size of your picture slides. Most pictures slides are undeveloped 35-millimeter camera slides. Cut a hole that is the same size in the end of the box, opposite the light source. Position the hole so it lines up with the magnifying glasses and the light source.

    4

Tape a picture slide over the newly cut square. Make sure the tape is confined to the edges of the picture slide.

    5

Close the box and turn on the light source to project the slide on a projector screen or empty wall.
