How to Take Pictures of Kittens

The internet is littered with pictures of cats and kittens in various cute poses and amusing activities. Given such proliferating photographs, it might seem easy to photograph your own kitten, but it's not necessarily. Kittens move around a lot -- they're not always willing to pose for a camera -- and sometimes they might find the camera's flash upsetting. Still, you're the best person to photograph your cat, since only you know the ins and outs of your kitten.

Instructions

    1

Photograph kittens in their natural surroundings. Cats are territorial animals and act the most normal normal when they're at ease. Photograph your kitten in one of its favorite spots so it feels comfortable.

    2

Wait for the right moment. Keep a camera handy so you can catch your kitten at its most adorable -- like when it's licking its paws or playing with a toy. Take several pictures at a time so that you can pick the best photograph in a series. This is particularly important when the kitten is moving fast, like when it's playing with other kittens or jumping up. A digital camera is useful for catching a series of photographs, as many are equipped with a sequence-shot setting which can capture several photographs in seconds.

    3

Lower the camera so that it'sleve l with your kitten; this will capture the most natural photographs. Avoid using the flash; most camera flashes are too bright for a kitten's eyes and will upset your pet. If you must use the flash, don't take pictures of the kitten staring into the camera.

    4

Treats and toys can be effective in putting the kitten into a playful -- and photogenic -- mood. Have an assistant help you keep your kitten's attention by giving it treats or tossing it toys. Remember that kittens have a mind of their own, so be patient: If you don't catch a great photo in one session, you'll be sure to get one later.
