The world of digital photography has opened a new door for photo editing. Being able to upload a photo directly to your computer has made it easier for individuals to add fun effects to their photos according to their own stylistic preferences. Expensive programs can be purchased for artists to work their magic on photos. However, a good number of free programs are also available, with many options for jazzing up a photo and making it fun and creative.

Download a free photo editing software such as Photoscape, Gimp, or Paint.NET (see References) and install the program on your computer. You may wish to download multiple programs and test them out to see what you prefer.
2Open the photo you wish to edit in your software and try different color options, such as black and white or sepia tone.
3Create a new blank layer on top of the photo (if your software has layering options) and try painting designs over the photo.
4Try different effect filters that come with your editing software. Some popular effects are "bloom," "vintage," and "artistic."
5Add a digital frame to your photo. Some software (such as Photoscape) has pre-made templates, or you can create your own using layers.
