Putting together a portfolio of your photography work isn't a difficult task. However, some photographers can be indecisive about making portfolios only because there are a variety of ideas a photography portfolio can be based on. You could, for instance, create a portfolio that only showcases your black and white photos. Or you could create a portfolio that focuses on your work from a specific year. Decide what you'll use the portfolio for and what you hope to gain from it. Then choose the theme that will accomplish your goal. Most importantly, make sure your portfolio is presented properly.

Select 10 to 20 images to include in your portfolio. All of the photos you select should revolve around the same mood and theme. Visual emotion, for example, could be the theme of your portfolio.
2Decide what kind of portfolio you're putting together. Image Library portfolios are the photographic equivalent of a "Best Of..." album. Aim to include 7 to 15 photos for Image Library portfolios. A Commercial Photography portfolio is geared toward a specific profession. An inspiring fashion photographer, for instance, would make a portfolio of fashion shots.
3Make sure your prints are of high quality. Select a leather photographer's case, folder or binder to place your photos in. If you choose to place your photos in a leather case, the case will come with high quality plastic inlays you can place your photos in. Otherwise, you can glue each of your photos onto a piece of white cardboard and place them into a binder.
4Type up a brief artist statement to include in your portfolio. You should also type up a title list of the photographs included in your portfolio. And, finally, select a cover image that represents your portfolio as a whole. Consider including a CD of music that can be listened to while viewing the portfolio.
