Photo slides went out of a fashion for a while as digital technology improved and developed different ways of viewing imagery; however now digital technology has found a use once more for the humble photo slide by introducing digital photo slides. These work in the same way as traditional slides by being projected onto a wall or screen. They can be used for business purposes but are often included in pieces of visual art projected onto artwork or as the work itself. Photo slides can also be used to project an image onto a canvas to use as a basis for a painting.
Instructions
- 1
Hang the canvas or large sheet of paper on a wall. If you are painting on paper, make sure it is thick enough so that the paint will not go through onto the wall.
2Place old newspapers on the floor beneath the canvas to protect the floor from paint splashes.
3Position the photo slide projector on a table or chair directly opposite the canvas. It should be around five feet away from the canvas, but this will vary according to the size of the canvas.
4Switch the photo projector on and focus the photo slide you want to paint on the canvas surface.
5Lightly sketch the outline of the projected image in pencil onto the canvas; this will give you a guide of where to paint if your arm or head gets in the way of the projection.
6Paint the projected image onto the canvas.
