Camera manufacturers try to remove optical aberrations and defects from lenses to make the lenses sharp and true to color. Sometimes, especially with photography art, the photographer might use some characteristics such as chromatic aberration, spherical aberration and color fringing, designed out of a high-quality lens. While a limited number of commercial products offer some types of distortion, a DIY lens provides the exact look desired. Figuring out how to mount the lens to the camera is one of the hardest parts of making a homemade camera lens. A camera body cap provides a simple attachment system.

Instructions

    1

Cut the front out of a camera body cap. One way to cut the front out is to drill closely-spaced 3/16-inch holes around the cap's rim, and then connect the holes by pushing the drill bit sideways.

    2

Sand the edge of the cut smooth with the sandpaper.

    3

Cut a section of bike tube to meet your lens' needs.

    4

Stretch the bike tube over the edge of the camera body cap. Secure it with a zip tie.

    5

Slide your optics into the other side of the bike tube and secure with a zip tie.
