Ideas for Children's Photography: Two Sisters

Taking photographs of children as they grow is a great way for your family to look back and remember special times in their lives. Many parents opt to have professional portraits taken, which is perfectly fine, but if you are savvy with a camera there are less expensive options for capturing beautiful pictures of your children. If you are the parents of two daughters, there are many great photo opportunities waiting for you.

Put Your Children in a Landscape

The beach is an excellent backdrop for stunning pictures of your children.

If you and your family are planning to travel near beaches, lakes or wooded areas, these types of environments serve as an excellent opportunity to capture awe-inspiring images of your daughters. Next time you are in one of these places, encourage your children to explore and interact with each other while you watch and snap photos from a distance. Make sure to open up the camera angle to catch the sky and the surrounding areas, as this will make the photos more visually dynamic. In areas with plenty of natural light, try shooting with a sepia or black-and-white filter for a more vintage appeal.

Catch Your Children Napping

Sleeping children are the perfect photography subjects.

If you are the parent of two young children who are still taking regular naps, you might consider using it as an opportunity to shoot some one-of-a-kind images of your little girls. This project is especially effective if one child is an infant and the other is between the ages of 2 and 5. Simply put your older child down for a nap, and when you're sure she is asleep, position your infant (hopefully also sleeping) next to the older sibling. Allow your babies to settle for a few minutes in their positions before quietly snapping a few images. Try shooting a few frames in different filters to get the broadest range of images.

Capture a Beautiful Moment

Even the simplest scenarios make for touching photographs.

If you are looking for a photo opportunity that will also make for an interesting display piece or even a gift for family and friends, try catching your daughters interacting with each other and with other members of the family. For example, if you catch your girls in the kitchen with Grandma, laughing and making cookies, or in their bedroom with Daddy, reading a bedtime story, snap a few frames when they're not looking. As long as your children are unaware they are being photographed, the images will be natural and heartwarming.

Capture the Essence of Your Children

Capture images of your daughters doing what they love to do.

Children grow up fast, and as they do their interests and personalities change. If you're looking for a way to capture the essence of who your daughters are right now, try making a photo collage of current photos that really represent them. If you have a child who enjoys horses and music and one that enjoys sports and dance, try taking photos of your children individually while they do the things they love. Take these photos and combine them into one collage piece, either on a computer or by hand in a large multiphoto frame.
