Open Word and select the PROJECT GALLERY from the FILE menu. If you click on CD Labels you will find the project templates loaded on your computer. You can download lots of free templates from Microsoft and other links (see Resources below). When you download free templates make sure they are stored in the proper directory so they will be available from with the Word application.
Select a template that works for the project artistically. Make sure you consider the type of paper stock you are printing on. Do you want a glossy or matte finish? Is the stock colored? This will have an impact on which template you choose. When you open the template, notice there is a front page and back page, which will print on two separate sheets.
Simply click on a text element to edit the text. You can easily change the font, text color, text attributes and location. If you don't want a particular text element, simply select it and delete it.
Insert an image, as you would in any Word file. Select the INSERT menu and choose IMAGE/FILE and browse to find your image. Click OK.
Once you have inserted your image, simply select it and drag it into position. You can then format the image by selecting it and choosing FORMAT/PICTURE. You can choose from a variety of borders and adjust the color and the thickness of the border.
After you have added all the elements to the front cover, it is time to edit the back cover. Don't forget to edit the sides of the cover so you can easily find it on the bookshelf. You can also add images and clip art to the back if desired.
OK, it is now time to print the cover. Before you load your specialty stock, print a PROOF of the image on regular paper and carefully inspect the cover. Now trim the cover on a paper cutter or with an Exacto knife and ruler. Dismantle the jewel case and carefully fold your proof and assemble your DVD. Does it look the way you want it? If you like the Proof, then load the specialty paper and print your edition.
