How to Create Your Own Photography Props

Photo props can come from just about anywhere. They are fun kitsch picked up from the corner store or million dollar jewelry from Rodeo Drive. However, some people are looking for more-creative props to add some spice to their photos. Whether these photos are just for fun, in honor of a special occasion (wedding, birthday, bar mitzvah) or even as part of a professional photography shoot, there are props any photographer can whip up to add that extra sizzle.

Instructions

    1

Design your prop by drawing with your writing utensil on the construction paper. This is your chance to be creative. Mustaches, masks and speech bubbles are all popular, but try to come up with your own ideas.

    2

Cut out your designs. You will want to take your time because any imperfection will be magnified in the photo; the camera misses nothing.

    3

Saw your dowel rods to about 16 inches. Then, sand the rough edges so you don't get splinters when holding your props.

    4

Glue the dowel rods to the back of your designs. Be careful when letting them dry as you don't want to warp the design. Give them plenty of time to dry.

    5

Decorate your prop with glitter, spray paint or any theme-appropriate decorations you like.
