Old photos can be a treasure trove of memories. And whether you're preserving family snapshots or archiving pieces of history, sometimes it is necessary or desirable to restore a photograph to its natural colors. Over time, some photos can develop a warm or reddish tint, but with the right software it can be very easy to correct.

Instructions

    1

Scan the photo into your computer. Save the file in a place you'll remember. The "Desktop" is good choice.

    2

    Open your photo-editing software.

    3

Adjust the colors. This can be done in a number of ways. Many photo-editing programs feature an "Auto Color" button or have the option in a menu. This alone will often fix the red tint, or at least get it closer to its original colors.

    4

Use the "Color Temperature" slider (or similarly named feature) if your photo-editing software doesn't have an "Auto Color" option, or if you want to fine-tune the color further. Slide the temperature closer to the "Cool" end, which is the higher number, until the colors look natural and the red tint is eliminated.
