How to Add a Slide Border to a Photo

It's easy to give your picture a film slide border to make it look like a movie poster or for a special effect to use in a brochure or website. GIMP comes with a built-in filter for just such an effect. You can adjust the color of the text and the numbers that appear on the border. It is easy to use and comes with just a couple of special adjustments so you can create your "slide" image in seconds. Here is how it's done.

Instructions

    1
    Open File

Open the file that you want to use in GIMP. Then navigate to the FILTERS menu and select the DCOR tab. Next, locate the SLIDE filter to open the toolbox for the filter.

    2
    Edit Text

Replace the text with the text you want to see in the slide frame. To make it look like a slide, type the word KODAK and keep the special color. Notice the number. This will be the number that will be on the slide background. You can select any number from 0 to 36.

    3
    Adjust Effect

Adjust the text font and color if you desire. You have the full library of fonts and colors that are available on your computer. Notice that although you can change the font, the size is chosen automatically. When you are all done click OK.

    4
    Final Image

The rendered image will appear in the window. Save your creation under a new name since it is actually a new image. You will always have two numbers on the bottom frame and one number on the top frame. Your text is limited to what will fit on the frame, so you have to be selective when editing the text. Make your own movie posters or brochures for film nights using this nifty effect from GIMP.
