A senior portrait should reflect the graduating senior and his interests. The pose should suggest movement and a sense of character. It should not be a stiff pose that only reflects how nervous the subject is. To help your graduating senior be relaxed, it is important to follow a few simple tips in posing your subject. Ask that they bring several changes of comfortable clothing. This could be casual clothing in solid colors (solid colors photograph the best) and any sports or band uniforms they are part of. Props that reflect the real person also should be encouraged.
Instructions
Tree poses
- 1
Position the subject in a comfortable position leaning against a tree with one foot lightly resting on the trunk. Angle shoulders slightly so they do not appear too wide. Shoot several frames from a slight downward angle, with the senior looking directly into the lens of the camera. Shoot several more from the sides, with the subject looking up and to the side directly at the camera.
2Have the portrait subject play his musical instrument or, if in a sports uniform, execute some moves to loosen them up. Snap photos of the action.
3Shoot the subject with his or her favorite pet. Pose an avid rider while riding horseback. Loves dogs? Pose with an arm thrown around a favorite dog.
