Combat photographers have a very unique job. As part of the US military, combat photographers are assigned to photograph a number of situations, including ceremonies and close-range fighting. The goal for all combat photographers is to tell a story with photos.

Enroll in one of the branches of the US military, which is required in order to become a combat photographer. This involves full recruitment, boot camp, and service in any area assigned. Enlistment can be completed at any recruiting office.
2Inquire about the position of combat photographer. If the recruiter is cooperative, he will fill out a dream sheet with the position listed. While this does not fully guarantee that you will get the position of combat photographer, it makes the odds very high.
3Complete 'basic'. Before the position of combat photographer can be assigned, the recruit must complete basic boot camp. The intensity and duration of this will vary based depending on the branch of service chosen.
4Go to school once boot camp is completed. The recruit will be sent to combat photography technical school. This is specialized training that lasts 2 to 3 months.
5On completion of the technical training, service starts and daily orders are carried out.
