Depth of field is the area around a specific distance that appears sharply focused through a lens. When a lens focuses on an object, it creates a narrow band of sharpness around that distance while the foreground and background may be out of focus. The greater the depth of field, the larger this band is, putting more of the image in focus. Two things can be done to increase depth of field: Making the aperture smaller or finding the hyperfocal distance. The hyperfocal distance is the point at which the depth of field starts when a lens is focused to infinity.

Reduce the aperture to let less light through the lens. Change the aperture size by adjusting the camera's "f-stop" to a higher number. This varies by camera, but most digital SLR cameras have an "f-stop" dial near the shutter-release.
2Point the camera at the subject and focus to infinity by focusing at the farthest distance the lens will let you.
3Find the point at which everything farther away is in focus. This is called the hyperfocal point.
4Point the lens at this distance, angling the lens towards the ground. Refocus the lens to this distance, and you will have reached your maximum focal length. Press the shutter-release to capture the image. Take a few images, varying the f-stop to find the best combination.
