Baby Photograph Ideas

Capturing young children in natural poses or complimentary lighting requires a ready camera and a large amount of free time. Everyone has a picture of the baby coming home from the hospital or in the crib for the first time. New parents want to feel their pictures are unique. For this result, it's best to think "outside the box."

Location Themes

Location themes, especially beach themes during the summer and snowy forest scenes during the winter, are very prolific and easy to find. The child is taken to a beach or out to romp in the snow, or the scene is simply set up in a photographer's studio with a backdrop and props. If the child travels often, a collage of snapshots of the baby in different countries near visible landmarks is an option.

Props

Props range from backround drops to stuffed animals, and everything in between. Props are items that are in the picture along with the baby. Babies can be posed with a favorite toy or blanket, or with holiday items like Christmas trees, Valentine's hearts or Easter eggs. If studio props are being used, it is best that they are disinfected before the baby comes in contact with them. Make certain that the photographer does this in front of you, since this crucial protective step may get accidentally passed over if the photographer is busy.

Poses

The youngest of babies will not be able to sit or lay for long in certain poses. Older children are likely to squirm away from ideal lighting or ignore props and stare away from the camera at something that has caught their eye. Poses should be captured from a child's natural state. Remember that not every baby picture must have the child staring directly at the camera with a smile on her face. A picture of a child with her back to the camera, gazing out at the ocean, can be cherished as much as a carefully manicured pose.

Colors

Care should be taken with colors when your baby is being photographed. Often-used pastels can make fair-skinned or light-haired children look like ghosts. If the backround is a pale color, try to photograph your baby with a brightly colored toy or dress him in bright colors.
