Photography is an amazing art, a way to capture moments of time into one single picture. Photography has been a way for us to tell stories, as well as show true moments in history. Whether it be a hobby or a professional career, opening a studio can be an exciting challenge for those that are truly passionate about photography.

Instructions

    1

Find the location of the studio. Some options are small building spaces for rent or sale, as well as utilizing your household for studio space, such as a basement. No matter what you decide is best, make sure that you have enough space to store all of your equipment and a central location for your studio sessions.

    2

Purchase and acquire photography equipment. This includes a professional camera (can be a manual or digital camera), a lighting system, other camera equipment (tripods, backdrops, posing stools, etc.), and a computer with a scanner/copy/fax printer.

    3

Develop a portfolio and promotional materials. This may include samples of photographs, advertising flyers, and sample albums.

    4

Build your office for any business meetings, contacting center, and general base for your studio. This will include a desk, computer, file cabinets, and at least three chairs.

    5

Create a financial plan that will cover initial costs from the items you need to purchase for the studio. Be sure to decide how you will cover the costs, as well as make profit from your studio. Some options are loans, contacting ventures and investors, and donations from friends and family.

    6

Register for a business and other required licenses, which forms can be attained from your local or state's chamber of commerce. Registering a Tax ID will be necessary as well.

    7

If hiring employees, create liability and contract agreements, which will create an insurance policy. As well, think of a payment system on how you will pay your employees, including benefits such as health insurance, vacation/sick time, and so forth.

    8

Launch your photography studio, and market your business to attract potential customers.
