Hanging photos is necessary if you want to show them in an exhibition or even if you want to display them at home. However, framing them is sometimes expensive and takes up a lot of room. Instead, get a professional look by mounting them on a piece of board and hanging them on the wall. This process creates photos that are preserved and on a sturdy background so you can move them from location to location and store them.
Instructions
- 1
Place a piece of mounting board such as gatorboard or art board on a flat surface. Do not use foam board as it will lose its shape over time and is easier to damage. Choose a photo and board that are the same size for the best results.
2Peel back the coating on the dry mounting adhesive tissue and lay it on the mounting board. Carefully press the photo on top, making sure the corners are even and all the bubbles are pressed out. Trim the edges of the tissue using a box knife and ruler to get straight edges.
3Lay a protective sheet of blotting paper over the print. This keeps the print and the iron from making contact. The iron won't be hot enough to damage the print but you don't want the tissue to stick to the iron.
4Turn the iron onto the lowest setting and allow it to heat up. It should be just past the point where you can touch it. If it gets too hot, the photo will blister.
5Press the iron onto the blotting paper with the point of the iron covering one corner of the photo. Don't move the iron. Hold it in place for about five seconds and then pick it up and move it to the next corner. Keep doing this until all of the photo is mounted.
6Peel back a piece of UV film. This is sometimes called cold lamination film, and will protect the photo from damage. Lay it on the image carefully, avoiding any bubbles or creases. Trim the edges using a ruler and box knife.
7Attach a self-adhesive wall hanger to the upper center of the photo. These have sticky backs after you pull of the adhesive cover. Stick it in place and hang the photo in the desired location.
