How to Merge Two Photographs Together. There may be times when you want to merge two or more photographs into one. The example in this article is one of those times. On vacation together, my wife and I took photographs of each other in front of the famous Club Paradiso in Amsterdam. We had been there the night before to see the band, Tom Tom Club and had actually met them at breakfast in our hotel that morning. However, there was nobody on the street to ask to take our photograph together so we took individual shots. In this article I will explore the different features of Adobe Photoshop Elements that enable you to merge photographs together in a variety of ways. It is not difficult, but does require some patience and practice with the different tools and wizards.

Open Adobe Photoshop Elements in the Photo Editor mode. Next, open the images you want to use in the bin. Simply choose OPEN from the file menu and hold shift while you click on multiple images to open.
2Photoshop Elements has a group merge function that allows you to open photographs and use pencil and eraser tools to select areas for merging. To use this function, open your photos in the bin and then select NEW from the file menu. Select GROUP MERGE and choose ADD OPEN FILES and click OK. The group merge menu allows you to use a PENCIL tool to select the item from the SOURCE file you want to merge with the FINAL image. You can also use the alignment tool to align the source and final images. This works great for images with identical backgrounds. It did not work well with my example images, however, so I had to use another tool to achieve my result.
3To create the image of us together, I needed to use the Panorama feature of Adobe Photoshop Elements. Click on the FILE menu and select NEW. Choose Photo Merge Panorama to open the Panorama menu. Click ADD OPEN FILES to add the files you have open in the bin. Notice you have five different choices of panoramas. I selected REPOSITION ONLY since I wanted to merge the two elements without changing the perspective of the original image. Once you have made your choice, click OK.
4The image will open in a new window. You can select each part of the image separately and move them to align the image the way you want it. You can zoom in on the image to make critical choices. Once you click OK, the new image will open in the Adobe Photoshop Elements image window.
5You will notice that the new image has some white space around it. The new image required some alignment since the images weren't shot exactly the same. Using any of these tools will cause some white space due to the way the images are aligned. The white space needs to be cropped out of the picture using the standard cropping tools. There you have it, both of us in front of the Club Paradiso. It is an easy-to-use creative feature that allows you to control history in some small way.
