If you want to be a successful wedding photographer then you will have to make your photos stand out from the crowd. One way to do this is to apply some simple but innovative techniques to your wedding photography to stun your clients. By experimenting with lenses, film and post production -- as well as using the environment to your advantage, you can capture a variety of photos in different styles that will demonstrate your skill and exceed client expectations.
Lenses
Fish eye lenses can be used to distort the image and create a rounding effect at the corners. When taken with skill, fish eye photos can provide a stunning twist to normal wedding photographs. There are other types of lenses that will add creative effects to your images -- such as exaggerated depth of field and dreamlike blurs. Try using a mix of normal and fish eye lenses to create a variety of images.
Film
To create a more classic style wedding photograph try using black and white film. While color film can be used to capture details such as the flowers and weather, black and white photographs captures an emotional element, including shots of the ceremonial kiss. Try using a grainy film to add an artistic flair to your photographs. Black and white film also works well when your newlyweds are on a beach, with large waves and jutting rocks in the background.
Environment
Use the environment to your advantage. Look for objects in the location such as statues, fountains, street signs or even interesting walls and doors. Ask the couple, wedding party and family to pose in front or around these interesting features. Adding landscape elements will give the images a textural quality that might be lacking in a photograph that doesn't take advantage of the surrounding environment.
Movement
Photograph people dancing to add a blurry feel to the photographs. Don't ask people to stop to pose for photographs on the dance floor, take advantage of the movement to create purposefully blurred photographs. The blurring portrays a sense of movement that can bring your photographs to life and capture the excitement of the wedding party.
Poses
Experiment with different poses for the wedding party. Break away from organizing people into straight lines or rows, try out a few innovative poses such as jumping, casually sitting down or walking toward the camera. Unusual poses will make your wedding photos successful.
Post Production
Edit your photographs using photo manipulation software such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP or Google Picasa. Try applying unusual filters, heightening contrast, increasing color vibrancy or applying a blur effect to certain areas to direct the focus.
