Since the early 1900s, a 35mm reverse film format, known as photographic slides, has been used to store and present photographs. Unlike negatives, this film was developed in the actual color of the object rather than in inverted colors or black and white. When combined with a simple projector unit, these slides could be enlarged and displayed on a screen. This technology has been made obsolete by advances in photography and projection. Moving 35mm slides to your computer makes it possible to preserve these images in a usable format, incorporate old photographs in digital sideshows and maintain important historical film records.

Instructions

    1

Clean your scanner bed with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth.

    2

Insert slides into the plastic slide holder. Look on the holder for marks that indicate the correct orientation of inserted film.

    3

Remove the transparent materials adapter (TMA) (i.e., the white cover attached to the interior of the scanner lid) Slide or lift the TMA away from the hinged joint.

    4

Place the slide holder on the scanner bed. Align the corner of the holder with the edge of the scanner bed that has a small arrow or orienting mark.

    5

Close the lid. Press "Scan" on the scanner to open your default scan program.

    6

Select "Slide" as the scan settings profile on your computer. Type a name for the file, such as "Patrick 1975." Choose an output format and desired file location; if you do not know what options to use, select ".jpg" and "My Scans."

    7

Confirm settings choices by pressing "Scan" at the lower, right corner of the window.

    8

Edit slides in the photo program of your choice to resize, re-orient, crop or correct color discrepancies.
