Photography can be a form of art, a hobby or simply a way of capturing precious moments in your life. Find inspiration for photography in publications dedicated to this form of art such as books, magazines, newsletters, websites and blogs. Choose both instructional-style books and those dedicated to the art of photography with help on subject matter, props, locations, lighting, camera lenses, shooting angles and editing.
2Get a job working for a portrait studio to become more acquainted with photography. Ask your co-workers or supervisors for help on getting into photography, recommended cameras and basic instructions. In time you will be taking pictures of families and individuals and developing your own photographic style.
3Join a local photography club or group. Check for group or club listings in magazines and other publications, online sources and through word-of-mouth. Local bulletin boards may also advertise these types of clubs. In your group or club, you will meet with others that have an interest in photography and will learn from their personal experiences.
4Go on a photography trip or excursion once you have become more familiar with your camera. There are excursions meant specifically for beginner photographers to hone their skills and gain the knowledge and education required for photography as a hobby or business.
5Experiment and practice with your camera by taking pictures of everyone and everything. Take pictures from different angles, whether that be lying on the ground or standing at the top of stairs or on a piece of furniture. Visit interesting locations like the park, beach or lake and photograph everything you see, such as the sky, grass, trees, flowers and gardens, oceans, sunsets or sunrises, birds and critters.
