How to Get Vivid Colorful Shots

Anyone can learn how to take good photographs. Today's cell phones usually feature a digital camera so most of us are always equipped with photo-taking ability. Getting vivid, colorful shots is less about physical technique, however, and more about being detail-oriented and open-minded. If you want to get vivid, colorful shots, you'll have to take photos of bolder images and carefully plan your shooting schedule.

Instructions

    1

Search for places where colors explode. Consider taking photos outside during sunrise and sunset. Snap some pictures at night. Nature often produces some wild colors that will ignite any photograph. The orange in the sky 20 minutes after sunset is a prime example. Our eyes are less sensitive to color at night, but digital cameras and film retain their sensitivity.

    2

Place your camera on a tripod to produce sharper photos. If your camera is sitting on a sturdy tripod, you can adjust your shot and lighting accordingly. If you're trying to get a great shot of the evening sky, you don't want the camera to shake.

    3

Use alternative light sources and a slower shutter speed (anything slower than 1/60) when you photograph your images. You can also use a larger aperture. A slower shutter speed and larger aperture gives your camera more time to capture the colors surrounding your object.

    4

Photograph neon or artificial lighting as well as natural and studio lights. Artificial lighting adds vivid colors. It doesn't matter whether the artificial light stems from the object photographed or another source of illumination. Every kind of fluorescent light renders wild colors in photographs.

    5

Familiarize yourself with the color chart used in photography. Sometimes colors appear different in photographs than they do to the human eye. For instance, mercury looks bluish-white to the human eye but appears green in photographs. Fluorescent lights appear white to the human eye but are green in photos.
