Light boxes are indispensable tools for professional photographers. By diffusing strong light into an unfocused, bright glow, light boxes help photographers create shadowless and uniformly lit photographs. Using an empty milk jug, amateur photographers can make a small light box which is very effective in photographing small items like jewelry or rare coins.
Instructions
- 1
Rinse the jug thoroughly under running water until totally clean, removing any milk residue. Place the jug on a stack of clean paper towels, and allow it to dry thoroughly.
2Cut the top off of the milk jug with the scissors. Cut across the widest point in the jug, taking care to make the cut as level as possible.
3Place the jug on the cardboard with the cut side down. Trace the outline of the open side of the jug onto the cardboard using the pencil.
4Cut the cardboard along the pencil line. Slide the cut cardboard into the milk jug, as far towards the bottom as it will go. The fit of the cardboard against the jug should be tight enough that the cardboard doesn't wobble.
5Place the jug open side up on a large, flat surface. Place two to four photography lights 15-20 inches from the jug, illuminating its insides through its walls.
