Self-portrait photography can seem like an exercise in futility, especially when shooting on film. Roll after roll gets exposed without any clue about your success or failure, until the film is developed. The problematic goal is a portrait with your eyes in sharp focus. Digital cameras provide instant results and guidelines for immediate adjustments. With a tripod to keep the camera steady and a shutter delay giving you time to perfect your pose, you can snap photo after photo until you capture a sharp, clear self-portrait.
Instructions

Mount a camera, preferably digital, on a tripod. Adjust the aperture to the smallest opening feasible with the available light. This increases the focal depth of field. Set the camera to auto-focus.
2Place an object in the exact position where your eyes will be when snapping the photograph. Once the camera has focused on that spot, switch the setting to manual focus. You can now slip into position without the camera refocusing on the wrong spot.
3Set the camera for delayed exposure. Attach a cable release to the camera or use a remote control.
4Take the place of your stand-in object and fire off the shutter by remote. Hide the remote from view. Smile.
