Hang a backdrop across a straight, flat wall. When you choose the backdrop, get one that is solid or without a busy pattern. The backdrop enhances the person's face without drawing the eyes away from the person.
2Place a stool in front of the center of the backdrop. Put a pole lamp on each side of where the person sits. Use low-wattage soft light bulbs so the light makes the person look good without washing out the skin colors. Use an overhead light so it highlights the subject's hair.
3Set the subject on a stool in between the two pole lamps. Set your camera on the highest quality pictures, and set it to manual focus. Have your subject turn their body slightly away from the camera, and turn their head directly toward the camera. Focus the camera on the subject's eyes, and take several pictures of the head and shoulders.
4Continue taking pictures in different camera positions in front of the subject, but always re-focus the camera lens on the subject's eyes. Keep taking pictures until you get an image that draws viewers' eyes to the subject's eyes in the picture.
5Aim a fan at the person's face, and take more pictures while focusing on the eyes. This gives a saucy look to the image.
