A beautiful sunset, the glow of city lights from an overlooking bluff, a baby sleeping in the dark--all of these are examples of subjects for beautiful photographs. Taking such photos with low shutter speed and no flash add to these beautiful results. Most of the time, you use a tripod to take these photos, but in many cases you don't have one available. Taking low shutter speed pictures without a tripod often results in blurry photos. Following the steps below will help to avoid that.
Instructions
- 1
Set ISO, which refers to the camera's sensitivity to light, between 200 and 400. Use a low F-stop number so that the aperture is at its widest. Both increase the camera's exposure and brighten the resulting photograph.
2Employ a large capacity memory card. In order to get a successful photograph without motion blur, you need to take a lot of pictures.
3Stabilize yourself by leaning against something sturdy and sitting, rather than standing. Stabilize the camera by setting it on a sturdy surface, such as a rock or table. The more stable you and the camera are, the less motion blur in the photographs.
4Utilize the timer or a remote with your camera to avoid any additional shaking of the camera that may result from pressing the shutter button. This, again, helps to curb motion blur in your pictures.
5Make use of your camera strap by putting it around your neck and holding the camera out until the strap is taut. Hold your arms against your body to provide additional stabilization.
