Digiscoping refers to the practice of using a digital single lens reflex camera with a telescope to capture images from a long distance. This type of photography is referred to as supertelephoto. Digiscoping is a fairly new practice, but Nikon is active in the development of the practice, even releasing camera-specific tools. The Nikon D70 offers photographers a chance to take advantage of this developing practice, and Nikon offers the equipment required to get started.
Instructions
- 1
Obtain the essential tools required for digiscoping. For one, you'll need the Nikon D70 or its equivalent. You'll also need Nikon's digital single lens camera attachment FSA-L1, which will allow you to mount a fieldscope to your camera. You'll also need an optical lens, such as the Fieldscope ED82. This fieldscope will give you a focal length of 1,500 mm.
2Remove any lens that is currently on your D70, and mount the camera attachment to the body of your camera. The attachment will fit directly into the lens mount.
3Mount the fieldscope to the end of the camera attachment through the smaller end of the fieldscope. No eyepiece is required for use with the fieldscope.
4Mount your Nikon D70 to a tripod, turn on your camera and begin to take photos as you would regularly.
