Photoshop allows people to take ordinary pictures and make them into something more artistic through the use of editing techniques. One of these techniques is called selective coloring. Selective coloring is a process where you can highlight certain elements of a photograph by revealing a single feature's colors in an otherwise black and white photo. The effect is quite dramatic, and is used more often in artistic photographs than everyday photographs. If, however, you want to add a unique touch to one of your pictures, try selective coloring with Photoshop.
Instructions

Open your Photoshop program, and then open the image that you'd like to do selective coloring on.
2Click "Layer" from the toolbar menu, and then select "New Adjustment Layer," followed by "Hue/Saturation." Click "OK," and a dialog box will appear.
3Set the saturation level to "-100" to make the picture layer black and white.
4Select the "paint brush" tool from the editing toolbox. Make the foreground color of the brush black, and set its opacity to approximately 50%. Change the size of the paint brush according to the size of the item you'll be selectively coloring.
5Zoom in on the object that you want to selectively color. Using the paintbrush, paint over the areas that you want to highlight to reveal those specific colors. If you make a mistake, switch your paintbrush color to white and paint over the area that you messed up on.
6Save this edited image as a new file. Your photograph should now be black and white, with only the selected item(s) colored.
