Perception depth can make an otherwise great picture into a terrible image. When you take photos, you must pay attention to the objects in the background of your image. Your photo will not appear clean if you don't. A clean background, one that complements the subject of the photo, appears in many forms. Sometimes, a clean background is a solid color. Other times, it is a beautiful landscape. Take the time to adjust your position, your subject or your lens to find the cleanest background available.

Focus your lens to create a blurry background. Move your subject as far away from the background as possible. Focus the lens on your subject. The more distance there is between your subject and the background, the more blurry the background will be.
2Build your own background. Place a solid color cloth or sheet in the background or tape paper to a moveable wall.
3Adjust your angle. Even if you can't change the angle to create an originally clean background, you can move so that the background is farther away and allows you to blur it out, as in Step 1.
4Crop the image and alter the background in Photoshop or another image-editing program. Crop the image close to your subject if the area closest to the subject is clean. Otherwise, use a blurring technique to clean up the background.
5Zoom in on your subject. Fill up the shot and leave little room for background.
