How to Edit a Photo to Eliminate the Background & Keep the Foreground

Since the advent of computers, photo editing has become increasingly easier and faster. However, though many programs can expedite the editing process, anyone who is attempting to modify their photos should pay careful attention to light levels, pixilation and shadows when discarding the background in favor of the foreground. Depending on the sophistication of the software, the photos may look awkward when edited purely by computer.

Instructions

    1

Sit in a dark room without direct lighting. Direct lighting makes the computer screen hard to see. Launch Adobe Photoshop on a computer. Open the photo that will be edited using Photoshop by accessing the File menu, followed by the "Open" command.

    2

Identify the objects that make up the foreground of the photo. Select the "Magic Wand" tool from the Photoshop palette. Carefully outline the perimeter of the foreground with the magic wand tool. Once the entire perimeter has been outlined, the selected object will have a blinking line around it.

    3

Choose the "Select" menu option. Click on "Inverse." Everything that has not been selected will now have a blinking line around it. Hit the "delete" key. The background of the photo will erase.
