How to Make Camera Ready Art

Making camera-ready art involves some planning; this is the easiest way to ensure that your photo session goes as smoothly as possible. Whether you are taking photos for a class or for pleasure, you will find that camera-ready art fits into two categories: the things that you have planned and the "fortunate accidents" that you have not planned that have, nonetheless, resulted in a powerful or emotional shot. Because art is a matter of opinion, the most you can be instructed on how to make camera-ready art is on how to approach and execute your plan.

Instructions

    1

Think about what you want your art to say. Photographic art as you may know is a graphic depiction of what an artist thinks about a topic or topics.

    2

Choose a film type. For your vision will you want color, or black and white film? If you have a digital camera, this doesn't matter as much yet.

    3

Choose a scene. For example you want to make a statement about how science is going to destroy the world, you might choose a laboratory.

    4

Gather models. If your scene requires people, schedule when they are available and inform them ahead of time what they should wear.

    5

Setup your lights and camera prior to when the models arrive. If your models have to sit-around while you set things up, they might become tired, hungry and increasingly difficult to work with.

    6

Direct your models. Use identifiable words to get them to convey an emotion. For example, if you want them to look sad, you might say, "Your mother is hurt." If you want them to pretend like you're not there, you might tell them they are "on a walk in the park."
